Authentically Crafted Using Traditional Methods: Hand-spun locally grown cotton is woven into narrow strips on traditional double heddle looms. These strips are then sewn together, selvedge to selvedge, creating fabric of proper substance. This is the real deal, not a stencilled approximation.

A Marvellous Natural Dyeing Process: The cloth undergoes an utterly fetching transformation through natural mud dyeing. It is first soaked in brown liquid coloured by leaves from the n gallama tree, which acts as a fixative. Tannic acid from the tea combines with iron oxide from the mud to create the distinctive dark brown and black tones you see.

Hand-Drawn Patterns with Genuine Contrast: Artisans draw each design onto the fabric using pointed iron implements, then cover the negative space with fermented mud. This process is repeated until the desired depth is achieved. When the mud dries and is washed away, crisp light designs emerge against the dark ground, creating a beautifully crafted, show-stopping visual effect.

Natural Bleaching for Pure White Details: The remaining yellow areas are hand-painted with a mixture of ground peanuts, caustic soda, millet bran and water. When washed out a week later, the designs emerge bleached pure white, a dramatic and glorious contrast to the dark background.

Each One Is Rather Unique: Because this is handmade using traditional techniques, subtle variations in colour and pattern are entirely expected and rather wonderful. No two throws are precisely alike.
