Meet the Maker: Bramble England

There is a particular kind of independent brand that starts not with a business plan but with a frustration — a gap in the market that the founder has tripped over personally and decided, with varying degrees of ambition, to fill. Bella started Bramble England in Benenden, Kent in 2022 because she wanted home fragrance that actually performed: candles that filled a room properly and held there, diffusers that released scent continuously rather than sharply and then not at all, products that were honest about what they contained and why. The brand has been doing exactly that ever since, from a studio in the Garden of England, in small batches, by hand.

The palette draws on the English landscape from hedgerow to coastline — Tuberose, Bluebell, a seasonal range that moves with the year. The candles use sustainable coconut wax and wooden wicks that crackle gently when lit, with the highest concentration of fragrance oils the formulas will carry. The reed diffusers are built for continuous, controlled release. Everything is presented in amber glass with gold foil on textured paper — packaging that is considered without being excessive, and that makes Bramble a natural choice for anyone wanting to give something that looks and smells genuinely good. All orders arrive gift wrapped as standard, which removes at least one decision from the process.

In 2023 Bramble England won Most Innovative Candlemaking Business UK and Most Sustainable Candle Gifting Business Kent at the LuxLife Global Excellence Awards — two recognitions in the same year that confirmed the brand was doing something right on both counts. They have since made bespoke candles for Chapel Down, repurposing their bottles in the process, and offer private label services for those who want the quality without the label. Bespoke orders are welcome. The range continues to expand with the seasons. This is a brand that knows exactly what it is doing and is getting quietly better at it.
