What you're holding is a proper piece of West African textile heritage. Bogolan, or Bogolanfini in Malian tradition, translates rather neatly to mud cloth in English. The term itself comes from the Bamana language, where bogo means earth or mud, lan means by means of, and fini means cloth. Rather elegant, that.

Authentically Crafted: Each cloth is hand spun and hand woven on traditional strip looms using local cotton. The strips are then carefully sewn together to create one gloriously unified piece.
Time Honoured Technique: The process is quite marvellous in its complexity. The woven cloth is washed, dried in the sun, then soaked in a mixture of pounded local tree leaves. Once properly prepared, artists apply mud dye by hand using traditional bamboo or metal spatulas, creating bespoke designs that reflect personal taste, social standing, or cultural significance.
Genuinely One of a Kind: Because actual human beings make these with considerable skill and patience, no two throws are precisely identical. The patterns, colours, and decorative details vary wonderfully from piece to piece.
Beautifully Crafted Quality: After the mud dye is applied, each cloth is washed once more to remove excess dye, then designs are outlined again for definition. You're buying something that's been touched by multiple pairs of hands, all rather expertly.
