Kerry Clayton was born with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome — a connective tissue disorder that causes daily pain. As someone for whom discomfort is constant, she wanted earrings that were genuinely lightweight, hypoallergenic, colourful and zero fuss for the school run as much as for a rare night out. She could not find them. So in 2019 she started making them herself in Kent, and Trend Tonic was born.

The material at the heart of everything is cork leather — a sustainable, vegan alternative to plastic-based faux leather or animal leather, which is feather-light, durable and kind to sensitive ears. Every pair of earrings is handmade to order in Kent, with hypoallergenic, nickel and lead-free metals and eco-conscious packaging. The range has grown from earrings into necklaces and clothing, all made on demand to eliminate waste. Trend Tonic is now worn regularly on ITV's Loose Women, has won Theo Paphitis's Small Business Award from Dragons' Den, and sits on the BAFTA approved sustainable supplier list for film and television. Kerry calls it dopamine dressing — bold, colourful, accessible jewellery that makes you feel something.
