Sal tree leaves have been used to make plates in Nepal for centuries. The process has not changed: leaves are hand-harvested without damaging the plant, then hand-stitched together using bamboo fibres, dried and shaped into plates and bowls. No chemicals. No glue. No plastic. Just leaves and bamboo, which means every Tapari plate is 100% organic, home compostable and fully biodegradable. The sal tree continues to grow. The process can continue forever.

Tapari was established in 2017, with a UK base and production partners in Nepal and India. The brand brings the product to the western market while keeping the production where it belongs — in Nepal, where the harvesting and manufacturing provides employment to women in poor rural villages, many of whom have no other work opportunities between harvests on their family farms. Production currently supports more than 1,000 families in the region. Five percent of Tapari's profits go towards education and healthcare projects in those same communities. These are not just the most beautiful disposable plates available. They are an act of genuine purpose.
