British pottery and glass are quietly having an important moment. The country's heritage in both crafts runs back centuries — Stoke-on-Trent built its identity around pottery, Stourbridge was once the heart of British crystal, and small studio potters and glassblowers from Cornwall to Yorkshire have been keeping the wheel-thrown and blown traditions alive against a tide of mass-produced imports. The Pottery & Glass Artists collection at Sostter brings together the makers we think are doing it properly: small studios, independent ceramicists and glassblowers, considered objects designed to be used rather than displayed. Some are working in functional tableware — bowls, mugs, tumblers, plates that get better with daily use — others in sculptural pieces that earn their place as centrepieces. All are made in genuinely small batches by people who actually throw the clay or blow the glass themselves.

The collection features work from Chow Bella (Hampshire ceramics by Claire, with a notably loyal dog-loving following), Sea Bramble Ceramics, Ribera Handmade Ceramics, Richard Moonstreet Ceramics and Avalon Home's distinctive Stoke-on-Trent plates — alongside David Perry Glass & Ceramics (one of the few UK makers working properly across both crafts) and La Rochère, whose hammered-glass tableware has been pressed in their Haute-Saône factory since 1475. Each maker works at a different scale and aesthetic — some classical, some modern, some properly experimental — but all share the same commitment to handmade quality.
