Selbrae House was founded in Kirkcaldy, Fife in 2006 by Donny Carstairs as The Just Slate Company — four products, a Kirkcaldy workshop, and a commitment to marrying contemporary design with the natural character of Scottish slate. Nearly two decades later, the family business has grown into the UK's largest slate homeware producer, stocked at Harrods, John Lewis and Selfridges, exported to France, the USA and Japan, and chosen to represent Scottish craftsmanship at a Scottish Enterprise seafood reception in Tokyo. The brand's oak and slate boards were on the table. The chefs did the rest.

Natural Materials. Made to Last.

Scottish oak is sourced from woodlands miles from the Kirkcaldy workshop, actively contributing to the management of native forests. Olive wood comes from centuries-old trees that have borne fruit until the end of their productive lives. Slate is heat resistant, naturally cool, and becomes more characterful with every use. Hand-drawn illustrations across the range — Highland cows, stags, bees, hares — are applied to serving boards, coasters, drinks sets and kitchen linens with a restraint that makes them live comfortably in any room.
