A Rather Splendid Piece of Wearable Art
This is, quite frankly, not your average throw. It's a proper handwoven mud cloth from Mali, crafted using methods that have been perfected over generations. We'll admit upfront: the craftsmanship involved is rather humbling, and once you see how it's made, you'll understand why.
Why Choose Our Handwoven Mud Cloth Throw
Authentically Handwoven: Each piece is spun and woven by hand using local cotton on traditional strip looms. The strips are then carefully sewn together, making every throw genuinely unique.
Mud Dyed and Hand Decorated: After the cloth is woven and naturally treated with pounded leaves, artists hand apply traditional mud dye using small bamboo or metal spatulas. The patterns are then outlined again, creating depth and character that no machine could replicate.
Cultural Significance: In the Bamana language, bogolan means mud cloth. Bogo translates to earth or mud, lan means with or by means of, and fini means cloth. The patterns often reflect personal taste, social status, or cultural meaning passed through families.
Marvellously Made: The entire process involves both men and women working together. The result is a fabulously crafted textile that tells a story with every thread.
