A Rather Splendid Piece of Malian Craftsmanship
This is, quite honestly, one of those purchases that makes you feel properly rather good about yourself. A genuine handwoven mud cloth throw from Mali, created using techniques so marvellously labour-intensive that you'll never look at mass-produced textiles the same way again. Each one is utterly unique, fabulously made, and arrives looking like you've picked it straight from an artisan's studio in Bamako.
Why Choose Our Handwoven Mud Cloth Throw
Authentic Craftsmanship: This is the real deal. Bogolan, or mud cloth as we call it in English, is created through a process so wonderfully complex it involves both hand-spinning and hand-weaving on traditional strip looms. Men craft the cotton strips which are then sewn together, and women apply the mud dye with meticulous bamboo spatulas to create the distinctive patterns.
A Living Tradition: You are, in effect, supporting generations of Malian artisans. The patterns and colours tell stories related to gender, social status, and personal taste. Each design is outlined individually after the initial mud application, making every cloth gloriously one of a kind.
Remarkably Textured: The process involves soaking the woven cloth in a mixture of pounded leaves from local trees before the mud dye is applied. This creates a rather marvellous, beautifully crafted finish that photographs far better in person than on screen, we must confess.

Dimensions: 160 centimetres by 100 centimetres
Material and Process: Hand-spun and hand-woven cotton with natural mud dye. The cloth is dried in the sun between each stage, creating subtle colour variations that make it quite the showstopper.
Colour Note: The actual shade is slightly lighter than shown in images. Rather like Hugh Grant in real life, somewhat more understated than appearances suggest.
Own a piece that is genuinely difficult to replicate. These throws do not hang about long, and each one arrives with its own story woven rather literally into the fabric.
