Gumbies began in Manly, Australia, with a founder who had spent enough time barefoot in the outdoors to know exactly what a great flip flop should feel like — and enough ethical conviction to insist it be made from recycled and natural materials. The result is a brand that's been worn around the world since 2006, with a loyal following who will tell you, unprompted, that these are the only flip flops they've ever bought twice.

The iconic Islander flip flop uses a Gumtread™ sole made from recycled rubber — the same material as car tyres, bonded with jute for strength and topped with breathable canvas or cotton for comfort. The slipper range uses second-life felt made from recycled plastic. Since March 2021, every item sold has funded the planting of a mangrove tree or the recovery of plastic from the ocean — to date, over 164,000 trees planted and 62 tonnes of ocean plastic recovered. Eco credentials that you can walk on, quite literally.
